Coming to connect and have a direct dialogue with all of you: Priyanka’s open letter to UP voters


Congress general secretary arrived Lucknow on Sunday morning to meet party workers and office-bearers ahead of her election campaign ‘Ganga-yatra’ on a steamer boat from Prayagraj to Varanasi from Monday to Wednesday.

Lucknow:  Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday reached Lucknow for a three-day visit in Uttar Pradesh, ahead of the Lok Sabha election. She wrote an open letter to the people of Uttar Pradesh, emphasizing that she was “connected with the soil of the state” and said that she has been tasked with the responsibility to change the face of politics in UP with the help of all the citizens.

Vadra, who was appointed as the AICC General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East), reached Lucknow to meet party workers. In her open letter released by the party, she called herself a “soldier of Congress.”

She wrote, “Because of the stagnation in the state’s politics, youth, women, farmers, and labors are facing a crisis. They all want to share their plight with us but because of the political gimmicks, their voices are not heard, and hence they remain absent from the policies pertaining to the state.” She further added, “I am connected with the soil of Uttar Pradesh. I believe there can be no change brought in the state without understanding and empathizing with your paint. That is why I am here to connect with you all.”

Striking a personal note with people of UP, Priyanka further said that she had been associated with the land for ages. “I firmly believe that no political change can take place without understanding your plight. That is why I am coming to connect and have a direct dialogue with all of you,” she said.

“I want to assure you that after listening to you, we will together bring about a change in the face of politics based on the foundation of truth and resolve. We will then move together to resolve your issues,” wrote the Congress leader in a bid to strike a dialogue with the electorate ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

She further said, “I want to assure you that we will bring in a change on the foundation of trust between us.” Apart from meeting party workers in Lucknow, Vadra will undertake a 3-day, 140 km long ‘Ganga-yatra’ on a steamer boat from Chhatnag in Prayagraj to Assi Ghat in Varanasi, starting from Monday.

She will reach Prayagraj by evening on Sunday. The party has planned Priyanka’s visit to several temples and dargahs along the route where her steamer would make stops, reports said.

Priyanka Gandhi returned to Lucknow a month after she was launched through a roadshow on February 11 along with her brother and party President Rahul Gandhi and her western UP counterpart Jyotiraditya Scindia.
